Ben Fruytier PhD studied Sociology of Labour and Business at Radboud University Nijmegen, where he later gained a PhD on the subject of organizational change.

Between 1979 and 2000 he worked at IVA, a contract research institute for social science research based at Tilburg University. Since 2000 he has been associate professor at the Nijmegen School of Management of Radboud University Nijmegen, and since January 2007 he has been a professor of Organizational Configurations and Work Relations at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht. As a HU professor, Ben Fruytier PhD has worked on a number of studies that have contributed to the professionalization of personnel and organizational management (HRM policy), and the teaching of HR as a field, both in (semi-) public organizations (such as universities, universities of applied sciences and health care institutions) and in private-sector organizations.
